What is the IAAI exam?

The IAAI exam is a three-part qualification — Level I, Level II, and Level III. Each level builds on the knowledge and applied skills of the previous one, moving from core automation concepts to advanced governance and enterprise-scale deployment.

Passing all three levels earns you the IAAI Certified Integration Architect™ (CIAI) designation — a globally-recognised credential that signals mastery of applied artificial-intelligence integration.

Level I — Learn & Configure

Level I — Learn & Configure

Multiple-choice questions assess your command of key terms, frameworks, and configuration steps that underpin AI voice, chat, and workflow automations.

Core topics include:

  • AI voice & automation fundamentals

  • Integration topologies & API basics

  • Data privacy & consent foundations

  • Prompt engineering essentials

  • Practical Skills Module: build a single-domain call-flow (graded pass/fail)

Level II — Analyse & Optimize

Level II — Analyse & Optimize

Case vignettes with multiple-choice branches test how you evaluate live deployments, identify bottlenecks, and recommend performance improvements using the data you have accumulated.

Core topics include:

  • Multi-system troubleshooting & KPI analysis

  • Advanced compliance use-cases (HIPAA, GDPR, PCI-DSS)

  • ROI modelling & optimisation logic

  • Sales-ops alignment & escalation routing

  • Practical Skills Module: optimise an under-performing multi-channel bot (graded pass/fail)

Level III — Integrate & Govern

Level III — Integrate & Govern

A mix of vignette items and constructed-response design briefs examines how you architect, govern, and defend large-scale AI infrastructures in highly regulated environments.

Candidates choose one of three specialised pathways:

  1. Enterprise & Cloud Telephony

  2. E-commerce & Customer Success

  3. Regulated Industries (FinTech / HealthTech)

Core topics include:

  • Enterprise-grade fail-safe design & rollback planning

  • Cross-border data residency & model governance

  • Stakeholder communication & change-management

  • Ethical deployment & bias-mitigation strategy

  • Practical Skills Module: draft a board-level integration charter (graded pass/fail)

Getting ready for your IAAI exam

Getting ready for your IAAI exam

There are several key milestones on the journey to your IAAI exam. Alongside studying the official curriculum and completing your Practical Skills Module, be sure to:

  • Review the Exam Guide – download the Level-specific guide for an outline of domains, weightings, and timing.

  • Create your Candidate Portal profile – this is where you will register, schedule, and view results.

  • Confirm technical requirements – verify the hardware, software, and internet specifications for the remote–proctored delivery platform (or your chosen test centre).

  • Plan study blocks – map out focused sessions that align with the domain weightings; many candidates target 120–150 hours per level.

  • Complete the Practice Pack drills – full-length mock exams and domain quizzes help identify weak spots before exam day.

How to register for the IAAI exam

How to register for the IAAI exam

Registration is completed in the Candidate Portal and includes two steps:

  • Register & pay – select your desired exam window (four windows offered each year for Level I; two windows for Levels II and III).

  • Schedule your appointment – choose an available date and time at your preferred test centre or select the remote-proctoring option.

Important: Appointments are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. You must lock in a slot before the scheduling deadline for your chosen window.

You will receive an email confirmation with your admission ticket and detailed check-in instructions as soon as scheduling is complete.

  • Identification – a current passport or national ID is required on exam day.

  • Calculator policy – only the approved scientific models listed in the Exam Guide may be used.

  • Code of Ethics acknowledgement – every candidate must accept the IAAI Code of Ethics & Professional Conduct during registration.

  • Technical check – if testing remotely, run the secure-browser system test on the same device you will use for the exam.

  • Exam deferral policy – understand key dates for rescheduling or deferring, should an emergency arise.

Practicing for your IAAI exam

Practicing for your IAAI exam

IAAI offers multiple ways to practise – all housed inside the Learning Ecosystem, the digital platform candidates use to study and access the curriculum:

  • Practice questions – end-of-chapter drills for every reading in the curriculum.

  • Mock exams – one full-length mock that replicate exam-day timing and difficulty.

  • Optional Practice Pack – an add-on with extra domain quizzes, analytics dashboards, and unlimited retakes.

Consistent practice under timed conditions is one of the best predictors of success on exam day.
